Thanx.

As for the Geneva Convention, I don't know the answer offhand, but you can probably find it at this good website:
http://www.spj.org/gc-intro.aspYaacovhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12835192312242961481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4008006782907969381.post-51007437053483965962009-01-13T07:01:00.000+02:002009-01-13T07:01:00.000+02:00Hello Yaacov. I stumbled across your blog in much ...Hello Yaacov. I stumbled across your blog in much the same way as many others, and first up I'd like to say what a pleasure its been reading some of your stuff. "Filing Away Germany's Jews" was quite fascinating, if a bit chilling.

Second I wish you hadn't mentioned Juan Cole in your blog, because now I'm a little offended. Yeah I went & had a peep, couldn't help myself. He's an assault (or insult) on ones ability to use logic & reason. Now I have to ask you to enlighten or correct me on a few things if you would;

The proportionality argument has grown wearisome, but Cole is like a dog with a bone on that subject & now he's trotted out a whole ream of legal names to back him up. As usual they take the issue in isolation, ie Israels attack is in response to 8000 rockets attacks with 11 deaths & should be proportionate to the demage done by those rockets.

Heres the problem. Israel has already responded to those rocket attacks, one assumes proportionately. They've been retaliating to Hamas rocket attacks throughout the entire 5-8 yr history of them. Now if Israel has already responded to the rocket attacks with proportionate force, which they have done, then by Cole & his tame lawyers logic Israel can't even (legally) retaliate or attack at all. Have I missed something or are these legal buffs with big letters after their names just showing themselves up as buffoons?

Second is a question. Does the right of a state to defend itself extend to preventing further attacks? If so is that quoted anywhere in any of the Geneva Convention or similar?

Once I get Juan Cole out of my head I may chat once in a while, would like to hear your thoughts on a few things.

Regards, Gavin.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4008006782907969381.post-46544109467576780992009-01-13T01:37:00.000+02:002009-01-13T01:37:00.000+02:00'There are some things a man ought not to do to sa...'There are some things a man ought not to do to save his country'-
Yeats quoted an old Irish patriot.
Do you get the impression, that some Islamic terrorists are doing these things specifically to show, that they aren't just fighting for their country?
My WAG, anyway.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
