A very astute and fitting eulogy to a towering figure in our field. I, too, was one of the student who hounded Hilberg back then at Yad Vashem (I think it was in 1990), when one of his purposes was to scout us out as possible candidates for trips to the USSR to check out archives there. Years later, I was also lucky enough to encounter his charming side during that 2004 conference at Yad Vashem. May we all continue to learn from his profound work. David
