The Dwindling Settlements

Akiva Eldar reports from a settlement in the northern West Bank that would fold if only the government would let it. A so-called "non-ideological settlement", i.e. one that mostly attracted settlers who were looking for cheap housing, not to ensure Israeli control over the West Bank. And now the settlers want out, and MKs from the left are doing their best to get a law passed that will make this easier.

Someday, once it's all over, someone should write an honest description of the settler's movement and its relationship with the rest of Israeli society. no one has ever tried to do that, which is too bad becasue the true story is far more interesting than the stereotypes.
