One of our readers suggested this week that I offer space on this blog to Ibrahim ibn Yusuf, who himself has been commenting quite a bit, more than I can respond to. Well, Ibrahim, if you're still here, please contact me at the e-mail over on the right side of the screen. Maybe we can craft a deal.
Yaacov
Yaacov: Fine idea, this. Perhaps one of your readers can read Spanish. That way, you could actually provide two posts to your readers.
ReplyDeleteThe first would what he says in Spanish. It might be called, "Yusuf's World."
The next column, written for your English reading audience, would appear at its side. It would be called, "Taqiyya."

You can't be serious. You already give plenty of space to the guy in the comboxes. We come here to read you, not him. Don't make him some sort of co-blogger. No way. Boo. (Whose idea was this? I've gotta go read the threads.)
ReplyDeleteIt was my idea, Lydia, and must confess that I was being sarcastic in the extreme. The larger point I sought to make--and indeed, most of my posts aspire to the same point although in different ways--was that jihad-think and its apologists articulate and structure their arguments in recognizable tropes. These tropes are influenced by a combination of theology and anti-semitism, the latter drawn from both Islamic and European sources.
ReplyDeleteThe sarcasm was as follows: properly contextualized, this world's Yusuf's unintentionally provide, to the critical gaze, the most powerful anti-jihadist evidence in the marketplace of ideas. For example, when Yusuf complains about Israel "claiming the moral high ground" (see earlier post) his whines conveniently omit the bloodthirsty nature of the opposition and how it plays into the 24/7 global news cycle which feasts on the video imagery that his co-religionists seem to take pride in offering.
Why would Yusuf ignore the ongoing public relations disaster perpetually birthed by his co-religionists? And why would his co-religionists assume that such statements and imagery (see earlier post) would resonate among the news consumers of the West? And if they are targeting their fellow Muslims, why would such imagery resonate there?
Good questions all, and I suspect that if one were to spend time translating Yusuf's website, some interesting answers might emerge.
If Yusuf were to make more such claims on this site, presumably Yaacov would not want for topics (not that he does now)--there is a potential cottage industry devoted the risibility of Yusuf-style propaganda. It would be as if Al Manar offered commentary by which Yaacov could amuse both himself and his faithful readers by exploding.
I meant nothing by it however, other than wishing to provide a ten foot target at a three foot range.
---Anonymous, who must remain so.
Unsurprisingly, I disagree with Lydia. The idea is worth giving a try. Those who come here to read Yaacov can just ignore my column.
ReplyDeleteOnly, I'd like to improve on Anonymous' suggestion. Rather than two columns, I'll write three. One in English, in which I'll be polite and soft-spoken. Another one in Spanish, in which I'll speak my true Jew-hating mind. And a third one in Arabic, which I'll devote to disseminating the Protocols.
Just kidding -- just kidding!
Mr. Yusuf: LOL!
ReplyDeleteNow seriously, Anonymous, I'd like to comment on this phrase of yours:
ReplyDeletehis whines conveniently omit the bloodthirsty nature of the opposition and how it plays into the 24/7 global news cycle which feasts on the video imagery that his co-religionists seem to take pride in offering
Of course you cited a lot of "mind-boggling savagery" committed by Arabs, but that's because you consume the Western press only. No, I'm not asking you to watch Al-Jazeera; I'm just asking you to read Haaretz, Ynet or the Jerusalem Post. There, you'd learn that the Israelis
-broke a 4-yr-old's elbow and repeatedly stomped on his stomach;
-pressed an electric heater on a detainee's face, captured the scene with their cell phones and sent it to their friends;
-used an 11-yr-old girl as a human shield, forcing her to march ahead of soldiers in a house-to-house search;
-killed in cold blood three uniformed but unarmed Palestinian policemen in retaliation for the murder of a soldier carried out by unidentified terrorists;
-distributed a newsletter written by one of their most famous rabbis in which he called for the murder of a terrorist's children;
-proudly present on the IDF's site the story of Jewish children that were used to perform military operations;
-shot in the stomach a passerby who had done nothing to them and left him lying on the sidewalk;
-stoned Palestinian children going to school and set a dog on them.
I believe all of this qualifies as "mind-boggling savagery;" what do you think?
Of course, my facts are cherry-picked.
Just like yours.
