Goldstone Wordle

Elder of Ziyon, who has been doing an extraordnary job of fact-checking the Goldstone Report, has a real cute - or perhaps, deadly serious - intellectual teaser for you. He has made a graphc representation of the 250 most common words in the report... and he wonders if you can find the word "Hamas".

I really recommend you check it out. 24 hours from now I'll be posting the answer here, if you haven't found it on your own by then.

  1. I found "Hamas".
    "Terrorism", I could not find.

  2. something must be wrong with Wordle - I followed the link to the Goldstone report and used the search function of Safari - it said Hamas more than 100 times, same as for mission, it said terrorism 29 times and it found flower 2 times - I let it search for flower because that was the one word Goldstone couldn't mention often enough during his Moyers talk
Safari of course lists words no matter where they are in the text and no matter how they are written. I didn't check up if that is the reason for the difference ... or maybe I am just not getting the joke?

  3. I only ran the conclusions/recommendations section through Wordle, as that is the crux of the report. (And the entire report was too large.)

Hamas is mentioned six times in that section.

  4. Hey Yaacov,

You might be interested in knowing that Goldstone is going to be debating the report with Dore Gold (Israel's former ambassador to the UN) at Brandeis on November 5th. Live online broadcast at www.jcpa.org. See the web site for details.

  5. I have been searching iTunes and the website and it seems there will be no download/podcast for it

while searching I found though that iTunes (Audio only) offers this http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?i=61402816&id=305982905
    from this website

I sincerely hope the Jerusalem Center will offer an audio-version of the debate for peripateting people like myself - for now my bet is that each time Goldstone finds himself in a corner he will start to whine.

  6. I'm sure there will be video of the debate made available after its conclusion. I know that the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs maintains a YouTube channel, and the videos will probably be kept on the web site for a while, as well.

  7. I'm slowly making my way through the report Yaacov, must admit I've been put off by its length up until now. I'm gobsmacked by it. The opening stanza is akin to reading the comments section at the Guardian. It's an outpouring, a gushing torrent, of everything the authors personally think is wrong with Israel no matter how minor, relevant or trivial it may be. I thought it was meant to be about Cast Lead & Gaza. Not an easy or pleasant read.

    Regards, Gavin

  8. Yes gavin, it's bad. I'm about two thirds through it, and will write my thoughts on in once I've finished - next week, perhaps.

Did you see the part where the failure of the Oslo process in 2000 is blamed on Rabin's assassin in 1995?
