UN: No Evidence

This really is a bit funny.
Two days before Israel's capture of a ship that was apparently ferrying arms to Hezbollah, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon released a report to the UN Security Council in which he said the United Nations took the Israeli allegations about weapons smuggling to Hezbollah seriously, but lacked the ability to independently verify the information.
So here's the proof, courtesy of Israel's Navy (and Mossad, but we won't mention them).
Israeli commandos seized a ship Wednesday that defense officials said was carrying hundreds of tons of weapons from Iran bound for Lebanon's Hezbollah guerrillas - the largest arms shipment Israel has ever commandeered.

The Israeli military said an Iranian document was found on board, showing that the arms shipment, disguised as civilian cargo, originated from Iran, although the paper was not shown to reporters. Rear Admiral Rani Ben-Yehuda, the deputy Israeli navy commander, said that despite its size, the shipment of weapons was a drop in the ocean of arms being shipped to Hezbollah.

Try to imagine what the world would be like if anyone trusted the important things to the United Nations.

  1. Yaacov,

In your opinion - is the hatred of Israel/Jews responsible for the UN's incompetence with regards to Israel's plight or is the UN simply that ridiculous?

  2. Why funny Yaacov? The UN has solid evidence!

"Ban wrote that the Lebanese government had not informed the UN of a single incident of weapons smuggling to its territory, whether by land, sea or air."

  3. Well Asaf, I think the real problem with the UN is that it's all wrong. You can have democracies within nation-states, where the voter is sovereign, but the state has the monopoly on power and includes three branches which each do different things and they're balanced. You can't do that among nations, and certainly not when most of the nations either aren't democratic or ar nut truly democratic. But even if they all were, it couldn't be done. The only way would be by creating a single world government, but for that you'd have to 1) have a consensus of all humanity about how they'd do it (impossible); and 2) in order to acheive the previous, you'd have to flatten the diversity between groups to such an extent that you'd essentially be destroying large chunks of mankind's diversity.

In other words, the UN as seen by itself and by its many fans is an extremely bad idea.

Israel is merely the proof of the matter.

  4. Shalom Yaacov,

To quantify how unfree/undemocratic the UN, or more precisely the UNHRC is, I divided the UNHRC vote on the resolution endorsing the Goldstone report into 3 blocs, those that voted against or refused to vote, those that abstained or were not present, and those that voted for the resolution. Then I used Freedom House's 2009 World Freedom Index and computed the average rating of each bloc.

You can see the results here :

My findings express what we already know in the simplest of terms, and what hard-lefties refuse to face.

Looks identical to that in the video, 106mm recoilless made in Iran. It would be interesting to know what that load of arms actually cost, it can't be cheap. Iran must be spending a fortune on Hizbollah, small wonder their own economy is in the cart.
