Following the murder of four Jewish civilians two evenings ago on route 60 near Hebron, there was an attack against civilians on Route 60 south of Nablus yesterday. This time no-one was killed, but the two civilians in the car were wounded.
The cycle of violence seems to be back, doesn't it?
just asking myself if a cycle of violence can appear and disappear again. Isn't it a contradiction to the term "cycle of violence" itself which suggest that a phenomenon as violence is endless and won't go away?
ReplyDeleteIf/when Israel responds effectively, it will then automatically be a "cycle of violence" and Israel would be forced to cease and desist from defending itself in order to break out of the "cycle".
ReplyDeleteAren't peace talks great? So far the only effects they have are dead
ReplyDeleteIsraelis as Hamas et al prove they are hard enough to shoot unarmed pregnant women.
I would love to see an Israeli PM say to Obama exactly WHY he thinks now is the time to "make peace" and WHY the status quo is a problem.

I agree with Anon
ReplyDeleteCycle of Violence bemoaners will be back in numbers only as soon as Israel starts to act on curbing whatever in the bud.
and btw I don't buy the story I am sold that evil Hamas could operate in the West-Bank without quite a number of "peacefuls" looking the other way.

Silke,
ReplyDeletethe ability of PA to "crack down" on hamas members, show that they know very well what's going on in the Westbank.

OT and I haven't read it yet but since Uribe is a person of interest and I doubt that very many people are still interested in Prospect ...

ReplyDeleteI have my doubts that the PA will crack down on the real ones - it is a good occasion for them to get at some rivals - but unless somebody convinces me that Israeli officials can do their own investigations fully supported and unhindered and with adequate ruthlessness I keep my doubts.
I am a "loner" but have lived long enough in and with tight-knit circles to not believe for one instance that the planning wasn't well and most likely widely known - any experienced subaltern will tell you how one informs one's boss while never telling a thing.
Somehow I remember that after Oslo when I followed the news very superficially "they" had me almost convinced that poor peace-eager Arafat just was too powerless to deliver, what could he do with all those unruly guys ...
Maybe Abbas et al are quite happy that this stuff will help them to project a similar picture now.
