I know this is supposed to be a serious blog with a mostly clear focus, so I apologize for not being able to resist a quick skip elsewhere. If you read yourself this article out loud, it's title will be "She who must be obeyed". Parts of it, especially the 4th paragraph, sound like they were lifted directly from this old chestnut
Hu is the leader of China?

Dr. Lozowick,
ReplyDeleteA couple of points about the Abbot and Costello routine:
1. Although they frequently changed some of the lines and order of the routine, the right fielder was never named.
2. Charles Einstein is the editor of a book called "The Fireside Book of Baseball." He has the routine in the book and in the introduction he says that the author is unknown, not anonymous because somebody actually wrote the script, we just don't know who.
3. Abbot and Costello were not the first to perform the routine, it was a vaudeville standard for a long time, they just did it better than anyone else.
4. It still cracks me up. If I'm driving and it comes on some old time radio show, I have to pull over to the side of the rode because I start laughing so hard.
