Newsflash: World Upside Down

The world has to be quite bonkers when the British prime minster calls Gaza a prison which Israel must open, and Amira Hass says it's the Palestinians doing it to themselves as part of their PA-Hamas rivalry.

I feel the need to retire to a Pacific island for a decade or three. Or a Finnish lake deep in the forest, as long as there's no road or telegraph lines anywhere nearby. Call me when they're done.

here's Melanie Philips on Cameron

including news? on one of the wounded soldiers. If that is true, I am sorry the IDF shot only 9. (what may be just may be understandable being done by men in extreme combat stress in the middle of a battle becomes in the context of the Flotilla so outrageous I don't have words for it.)

My guess is btw that Cameron wants to establish himself as the big one in the EU, no 1 with the US on top of Sarkozy and Merkel and when they wanna be big, they wanna be big and to hell with the rest of the world.

PS: Westerwelle has been blabbering about bridge building also but was very muted on EU-membership.

If I read it correctly, Hass is lamenting the fact that Fatah is officially in control, and not Hamas, who are the true hope of the Palestinians. What is upside down about this for Haaretz?

is there a way to read Ms Hass correctly?

I definitely gave it a try but couldn't decide what she wanted to tell me besides that some Palestinians have a passport problem and that the reasons why that was so exceeded her powers of explanation. The latter she didn't say the latter was what I concluded after having plowed through it.

Can it be that "they" are using a secret language incomprehensible to the uninitiated? Are there initiation courses or rites? How much is charged for them?

Ah, well if that's the case, she's not as under the weather as I was led to believe....
