Will Amnesty International Apologize?

On May 12th AI published a strong condemnation of Israel for arresting Ameer Makhoul. The condemnation included a written communique and some oral statements by one Philip Luther, Deputy Director of Amnesty International's Middle East and North Africa Programme.

Yesterday Makhoul admitted in court to spying for Hezbullah; he faces 7-10 years in jail.

I have sent an e-mail to AI, and tweeted them, too. Feel free to join, if you wish. They're not likely to apologize, but maybe they'll be a teeny bit more careful next time round.

Ya'acov don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen.

Makhoul should have sentenced to death - the Stupid Jews don't know how to deal with treason.

But that's just my opinion. That said, I expect the anti-Israel crowd will use his sentence as more "evidence" of Zionist perfidy.

It's better to target someone in AI's hierarchy directly. Otherwise it's going to get read and deleted by some intern.

They achieved what they wanted, so maybe they will and maybe they won't.

There are more serious things to deal with at the moment.

Will AI apologise?
Of course they will do it together with the Guardian who published this penned by Ben "I can understand why people are antisemites" White.

Yaacov - what do you think about Silverstein's take on this? And I'm asking seriously.

Yaacov said...

Three responses, Jon, all serious. The first is to wonder what set of evidence could ever theoretically convince Silverstein he's wrong? Because I can't image what it might be.

Second, to ask what shred of evidence he's got for his outlandish thesis. Beyond innuendo and spite, I mean. Facts.

Third, most serious of all: that Silverstein is a seriously deranged fellow, and I've long since stopped reading him. Juan Cole is profoundly wrong but you can see how he manipulates his facts. Silverstein is simply sick.

Well yeah, I've noticed that myself. But he brings examples. So I guess what I was asking is, were any of his examples valid? I'll take that as a no.

10 years from now they'll claim he was tortured into a false testimony

Anonymous is right: confessions of guilt count for nothing for people who are convinced the Israel tortures Palestinian prisoners. On the contrary, the confession is further evidence against Israel in their minds. Once you see the world through a distorted lens, everything confirms your initial judgments. That's what prejudice is all about.
